Caleb Williams explains how the Bears defense has prepared him

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams faced adversity in Saturday's preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals, where he overcame a slow start and three consecutive three-and-outs to lead the offense to two scoring drives to wrap the first half.

Following the game, head coach Matt Eberflus didn't rule out Williams seeing some action in Thursday's preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs, but it certainly feels like Williams' preseason could be done after extensive action against Cincinnati.

If that's the case, Williams was asked to reflect on what he learned from his two games of preseason play, and he explained how facing the Bears defense every day has helped prepare him for live action.

"I learned our defense is really good," Williams said. "They've done a great job helping me, preparing me. Defensive guys talking to me about things I do and things I can get better, and obviously the offensive coaches and QBs and everybody talk to me.

"We have our meetings, but the defensive guys speaking up, telling me what they see from their lens, it's only made me better. And I tell them, and we're all excited that we're going to win a lot of games, have a lot of fun doing it."

On paper, the Bears defense has the potential to be one of the best in the NFL this season, which includes a top secondary and linebacker unit, as well as a talented defensive line. And Williams gets to face them every day in practice. While that's led to some frustrating moments, it's been a learning experience that will only benefit Williams as he readies himself for his rookie season.

Williams' performance against the Bengals garnered strong reaction across the league, where NFL fans and experts were left impressed by his natural playmaking ability and even Tyreek Hill chimed in with what appeared to be a Patrick Mahomes comparison.

Sure, it's only preseason. But Williams has flashed his potential, impressive playmaking ability and improvisation skills that has fans excited for his future in Chicago.
