Caleb Williams addresses scary hit to knee by Lions LB Jack Campbell

The Chicago Bears lost their Thanksgiving matchup to the Detroit Lions, but they could have suffered a much greater loss when it comes to their young and rising rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Early in the third quarter, as the Bears were on their first offensive drive of the second half, Williams took off on a nine-yard scramble where he picked up the first down. As the play was coming to an end, though, he just narrowly avoided a potential serious injury to his knee.

Williams closed on the sideline and ended his run awkwardly, where it appeared he was trying to stop on a dime and make Lions linebacker Jack Campbell over-pursue him. That was not the case. Instead, Williams decided to stay in bounds, and Campbell dove straight at Williams' knee, which bent awkwardly and looked to be a serious injury.

Fortunately, Williams was quickly checked out and remained in the game, where he threw three touchdowns that nearly led the Bears to a victory. Still, Williams let it be known that he did not appreciate Campbell diving straight at his knee when he met with the media after the game.

Thankfully for Williams and the Bears franchise, a serious injury was avoided, but it's paramount that the rookie quarterback avoids putting himself in such situations. It was undoubtedly a scary hit from Campbell, but Williams could do everyone a favor and work to avoid taking that hit by getting out of bounds or sliding down before taking the blow.
