Will Calafiori play Arsenal vs Monaco? Latest injury update on Italy defender
Mikel Arteta hopes Riccardo Calafiori will be eligible to play against Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday, ‘but it’s more a question for the doctors and physios.’
The Italian defender missed Arsenal games against Manchester United and Fulham and remains in doubt for the upcoming Champions League fixture against Monaco at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta provided a brief fitness update on the Italian defender after Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Fulham. The Spaniard was asked whether Calafiori would recover in time for the game against Monaco.

“I hope, but it’s more a question for the doctors and physios to understand where we are. We are missing a lot of players in the backline,” the Spaniard replied, as quoted by Football London.
“The good thing is that whatever we put there, they respond. They respond with a good attitude and performance.”
Calafiori had recently returned to action after suffering a knee injury in October and played in victories against Nottingham Forest and West Ham at the end of November.
The product of the Roma academy has made eight Premier League appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring one goal against Manchester City.
Due to his recent knee injury, Calafiori missed Italy’s games against Belgium and France in October.
