Caitlin Clark doubled down on her perspective on white privilege, after conservative commentator Megyn Kelly criticized the WNBA star’s “condescending” remarks.

“I try to just be real and authentic and share my truth and I think that’s very easy for me,” Clark said onstage during an event where she was honored as Time’s Athlete of the Year.

In a wide-ranging profile for the magazine, Clark credited Black women with paving the way for the league’s newfound popularity, which has been driven by a worldwide interest in the 22-year-old star.

“I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a white person, there is privilege,” she said in the profile. “A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players. This league has kind of been built on them.”

Kelly took issue with Clark’s stance.

“Look at this. She’s on the knee all but apologizing for being white and getting attention. The self-flagellation,” she wrote on X. “The ‘oh pls pay attention to the black players who are REALLY the ones you want to celebrate.’ Condescending. Fake. Transparent. Sad.”

While Clark didn’t mention Kelly by name, she reiterated her admiration for the “many amazing Black women” in the league and said she’d continue to uplift them despite criticism.

“I’m very comfortable in my own skin and that’s kind of how it’s been my entire life,” she said. “I feel like one of my best skills is just blocking things out. The only opinions I really care about are the people I love, my teammates, my coaches, the people inside our locker room, the people I see every single day and I know have my best interest at heart.”
