BVB women beat Brechten 4-0 in the Kreispokal

Borussia Dortmund's women impressively underlined their credentials as favourites to lift the Kreispokal with a 4-0 (4-0) victory over Landesliga competitors TV Brechten. Kimberly Becker celebrated her 100th game in BVB Black & Yellow in the quarter-final game at the Rote Erde.

Kreispokal matches against TV Brechten have already become something of a tradition for the BVB women: In 2022, Borussia beat their local rivals 3-0 in the final to lift the trophy for the first time. Last year, BVB ended TVB's hopes in the semi-finals with a convincing 5-0 victory. And once in 2024, Borussia Dortmund proved to be the end of the line for the women from Brechten.

In just the fifth minute, Landesliga leaders took the lead after a Mia Macarena Bedarf shot took a wicked deflection off Mandy Reinhardt to give the goalkeeper no chance. "The early goal gave us security. We let the ball do the running and made our opponents chase after it," said coach Thomas Sulewski. The BVB women pressed high, disrupting Brechten early on and penning them into their own half. Marie Grothe made the most of BVB's dominance in the game to add two more goals, In der 19. hitting the net for the first time in the 19th minute after getting on the end of a corner, before converting a flat cross from Merle Greulich on 24th minutes. Shortly before the break, Reinhardt added a fourth with 41 minutes on the watch to send the two sides into the dressing rooms at half-time at 4-0. "We linked up very well through the narrow spaces," said Kimberly Becker, who is Dortmund's first female player to notch up a century of appearances in the BVB jersey.

In the second half, the 269 fans in attendance once again saw the Black & Yellows dominate a one-sided affair at the Rote Erde stadium. Brechten, who are third in the Landesliga, didn't manage to register a goal shot over 90 minutes. However, as the game wore on, the BVB women increasingly struggled to convert their clear superiority into good opportunities, even despite making five changes. A parried shot from Grothe in the 61st minute and a shot by substitute Danelle Tan, which went just wide of the goal on 75 minutes, were the best chances they managed in the second half. "We could certainly have played even more precisely and consistently, but we are of course pleased making it through to the semi-finals," Sulewski concluded.

Next Sunday, the BVB women will be back in action in the Landesliga. At 13:30 CET, the league leaders will travel to play Spvvg Herten.
