England secured their place in the Euro 2024 final following a 2-1 win over the Netherlands in Dortmund. Manchester United duo Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were involved in the action.

Mainoo, 19, enjoyed another landmark night as he became the youngest-ever England player to start a semi-final at a major tournament. He did so by showing a degree of composure on the pitch and Gareth Southgate’s best player on the pitch.

On the other hand, Shaw missed out on a place in the starting eleven. He came on at the start of the second half to replace Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier.

England’s winner came courtesy of Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins on the brink of stoppage-time.

Speaking to BBC Five Live after the game, Mainoo said: “It’s an indescribable feeling, we’re all buzzing. It’s been such a journey to get here. I feel like we’ve built on all the performances that we’ve had leading to this point, and I feel like the only way is up. It’s time to put ourselves into history.

“We had the game under control in the middle of the park. And I feel like in the second half we just had to grind it out. It was tough but the whole squad was a help, with the impact off the bench from Cole and Ollie. What a finish!

“My [England journey] has happened quick. But, I’ve just been taking it day by day, game by game. And now we’re in the European Championship final.”

Mainoo was spotted interacting with United transfer target Joshua Zirkzee after the full-time whistle.

We would like to congratulate the United lads on reaching the final. Forget the rest.
