Burnley vs Liverpool LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today
Liverpool are back on top of the Premier League, for 48 hours at least. The Reds survived a second-half scare at Turf Moor to beat struggling Burnley 2-0 in a festive Boxing Day cracker in Lancashire, going ahead after only six minutes when Darwin Nunez side-footed home wonderfully from outside the box to end his 12-game club goal drought.
Liverpool absolutely bossed the first half but could not find any further breakthrough as Mohamed Salah struck the crossbar and Burnley's James Trafford made a number of strong saves, with Cody Gakpo's driven finish ruled out for a foul by Nunez on Charlie Taylor. Burnley were much better after the interval, but looked to have gone 2-0 down again when Harvey Elliott side-footed into the bottom corner.
However, that effort was chalked off controversially for offside against Salah, who looked to have been pushed by Jordan Beyer. Burnley were galvanised by that decision and had their best spell of the game thereafter, but substitute Johann Berg Gudmundsson wasted their golden opportunity before substitute Diogo Jota marked his return from injury with a stylish goal to wrap up an important three points to send his team back to the summit before Arsenal host West Ham in a London derby on Thursday night. Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
18:58 , George Flood
69 mins: This is Burnley's best spell of the game by a country mile and they are sustaining it, backed by a vociferous home crowd.
Liverpool are wobbling and giving away the ball all over the place, Berge shooting wide after a rogue Van Dijk header and substitute Gudmundsson then heading over at the back post after being picked out wonderfully by Odobert.
That should have been 1-1. A huge, huge chance for Burnley spurned.

Back underway at Turf Moor!
Can Liverpool turn their dominance into further goals, or will Burnley mount a comeback after largely weathering the storm?
Let's find out...
Half-time stat attack
18:30 , George Flood
Darwin Nunez remains a rather divisive figure on Merseyside.
Can that brilliant first-time finish - his eighth club goal of the season and first in 13 games - now spark a consistent run of scoring form?
Liverpool will need him to step up with Salah off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt in January.

Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
18:19 , George Flood
Half-time
A very strong half from Liverpool that has seen them dominate possession (69 per cent) and create numerous chances - their eight shots on target (14 overall) marking the most in one half all season.
But Trafford has been excellent for Burnley and it's just a one-goal lead at the break.
The hosts aren't out of this yet.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool

45 mins: Liverpool are still dominant as we enter two minutes of added time at the end of the first half.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
18:13 , George Flood
42 mins: Burnley are sliced apart again and Elliott seizes on a deflected pass to pick out Salah, who is denied by Trafford.
The former Manchester City goalkeeper then holds the ball as it deflects back goal-wards off the defender.
A slice of good fortune for Burnley there.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
18:11 , George Flood
41 mins: Liverpool's corner is headed away by Foster only as far as Gomez, who thrashes an effort that is deflected on its way over by Beyer.
The second set-piece is claimed confidently by Trafford.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
18:10 , George Flood
39 mins: Some better signs from Burnley over the last few minutes but they need a sprawling Trafford to dive low to his right to keep out a well-struck low effort from Endo on the edge of the box.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
18:07 , George Flood
35 mins: Burnley's best attacks in the last few minutes have come via Vitinho down the right, with his first cross making Alisson work to stop it sneaking in under the crossbar.
The second falls safe beyond the back post.
Burnley have had some bright moments going forward despite Liverpool's dominance, but there is no composure or quality in the final third at the moment.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
18:04 , George Flood
33 mins: Another huge left-off for Burnley as Taylor can't cut out a long pass for Salah and the Egyptian rifles a powerful left-footed effort against the woodwork with Trafford beaten!
Looked like that hit Salah's arm though, so it may well have been disallowed anyway.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
18:02 , George Flood
32 mins: Burnley get forward down the right but Odobert's mishit cross fails to pick out a claret and blue shirt in the middle.
Trafford now gifts possession straight back to Liverpool in a dangerous area after a panicked clearance.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool

29 mins: The on-field decision is confirmed.
1-0 to Liverpool it remains, much to the relief of Vincent Kompany and the home crowd.

Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:59 , George Flood
28 mins: GOOAAA... NO!
Liverpool have the ball in the net again before the half-hour mark after a thunderous strike from Gakpo.
Trafford made a great initial save from Gakpo, but Burnley couldn't clear their lines and there was a foul from Nunez on Taylor just before Gakpo hit it again.
The VAR will have a look, but I doubt this will be overturned.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:56 , George Flood
26 mins: Liverpool now pass the ball around and probe patiently in search of another opening, but this time Burnley form a rigid defensive shape and firmly shut the door.
They need more of that defensive and positional discipline if they are to get back into this.
Liverpool are absolutely dominating possession, with Nunez whistled for offside as they try to release the divisive Uruguayan again.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:54 , George Flood
24 mins: Though his clean sheet is already ruined, you can't help but be impressed with Trafford's decision-making and command of his box.
Burnley look lively again coming forward, but Foster can't pick out the in-form Odobert to his right and the chance is lost.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:52 , George Flood
22 mins: The first yellow card of the evening goes to Berge for hauling down Gravenberch.
Not subtle from the Norwegian.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:52 , George Flood
21 mins: Though they've had their moments so far, this is all so worryingly frantic and last-ditch already from Burnley.
Trafford comes out to deny Gakpo as the latter tries to steer in Elliott's deflected shot following a give and go with Nunez on the edge of the box.
Gomez can't keep the attack alive.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:49 , George Flood
19 mins: Taylor again, doesn't shield the ball away from Nunez and the Uruguayan strides forward down the right before delivering a dangerous low cross into the six-yard box.
Gakpo is just about muscled away from it by Vitinho.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:48 , George Flood
17 mins: Another Burnley corner comes to nothing before Taylor gets into all sorts of bother trying to play out from the back.
Liverpool seize on it but Nunez can't squeeze the ball home before a last-ditch hacked clearance saves the hosts.

Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:44 , George Flood
14 mins: Such a furious tempo to this game in the first 15 minutes.
A naughty-looking challenge from Beyer on Gravenberch is checked and cleared by VAR, much to an animated Klopp's annoyance on the touchline.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:42 , George Flood
12 mins: This is end-to-end stuff at the moment, Burnley now countering with some lovely one-touch football before captain Brownhill bends a low shot narrowly wide of the post.
I think Alisson just about had that covered.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:41 , George Flood
11 mins: Gakpo is getting in behind this Burnley defence time and time again during the early stages - one ball over the top doing a lot of damage.
He lashes a wild volley off target from inside the box before a heavy touch from the Dutchman curtails Liverpool's latest attack.
Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
17:39 , George Flood
9 mins: Burnley started this game well but need to be very careful now.
Gakpo almost goes all the way before Trafford makes a terrific save following an inventive effort from Salah.
GOAL! Burnley 0-1 Liverpool | Darwin Nunez 6'
17:36 , George Flood
6 mins: An early goal for the Reds!
Nunez is teed up by Gakpo after a good advantage played by the referee and the Uruguayan side-foots home into the bottom corner first time from just outside the box.
What a finish. Just what he needed.
Burnley 0-0 Liverpool

6 mins: Chance for Burnley!
Amdouni races through but loses his composure and confidence as he fires well wide of the back post.
Burnley 0-0 Liverpool

Final preparations at Turf Moor!
Burnley fans will have been keeping an eye on that incredible game at Bramall Lane, where two late own goals saw Sheffield United go from 2-1 up to losing 3-2 at home to Luton.
A brutal, brutal result for the Blades, but the Hatters are looking like making a real bid for survival.
So Burnley are five points adrift of safety in 19th, four behind 18th-place Luton.
Tresor replaces Larsen in only Burnley change
16:52 , George Flood
Burnley boss Vincent Kompany, meanwhile, makes just the one change to the team that lined up for the 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.
It comes in midfield, where Mike Tresor is preferred to Jacob Bruun Larsen.
Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Aaron Ramsey are fit enough for the bench, replacing Anass Zaroury and Michael Obafemi.
Still no Jack Cork though.
Five Liverpool changes from Arsenal draw
16:45 , George Flood
So that's five Liverpool changes from the team that started the huge title showdown with Arsenal at the weekend, with Joe Gomez replacing the injured Kostas Tsimikas at left-back as expected.
Ibrahima Konate drops to the bench as Jarell Quansah lines up alongside Virgil van Dijk in the centre of defence.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones are replaced in midfield by Harvey Elliott and Ryan Gravenberch, while Luis Diaz is on the bench after a knee knock as Darwin Nunez is drafted into the attack.
Still no Alexis Mac Allister, but Diogo Jota is fit enough to be named as a substitute.

How relegation fight is shaping up
16:18 , George Flood
19th-place Burnley went into Christmas sitting three points adrift of safety, but that has now extended to five after Chris Wood's hat-trick secured a shock come-from-behind 3-1 win for Nottingham Forest away at Newcastle earlier.
Luton are also currently leading away at fellow strugglers Sheffield United, a result that would keep them 18th but four points ahead of Burnley and only one behind Everton.
The gap between the rock-bottom Blades and Burnley currently stands at two points.
Premier League title race as it stands
16:05 , George Flood
So here's how things stand at the Premier League summit ahead of kick-off at Turf Moor.
Following their cracking 1-1 draw at Anfield on Saturday, Liverpool remain second and a point behind Arsenal, but with a marginally better goal difference.
That means they just need to avoid defeat this evening to go back to the top before the Gunners return to action at home against West Ham on Thursday night.
High-flying Aston Villa are also only a point off the top and behind Liverpool on goal difference only as things stand.
Unai Emery's side would end the night as leaders if Liverpool drop points and they get a result away against troubled Manchester United at Old Trafford in the 8pm GMT kick-off.

It looks like the festive spirit is not in short supply at Turf Moor this evening...
Kompany urges Burnley team to enjoy Liverpool challenge
15:48 , George Flood
After such a brilliant debut campaign, it's been a tough second season in charge at Burnley for Vincent Kompany.
However, the Manchester City legend is calling on his side to enjoy the challenge of trying to derail Liverpool's title bid this evening.
"I don't think I'm offending anyone by saying I don't think we're favourites for that game," he said.
"We have to take the positivity from this (Fulham) game and try and have another moment. There's no point of coming to this level if you're not going to enjoy the prospect of playing these teams.
"I hope the players and the fans enjoy and it's another opportunity for us."
He added: "The advantage I have (managing Burnley) is the history together. We've won a lot of games and we've said in those moments who we want to be when it becomes more difficult.
"It's about how you prepare yourself, how you're able to bounce back and eventually you get moments like (against Fulham)."
Klopp expecting tough test despite Burnley's dismal home form
15:32 , George Flood
A trip to Turf Moor has certainly not been relished by any Premier League manager over the years, but this season so far it's been the opposite of a fortress - with Burnley losing eight of their first nine top-flight home matches since promotion and picked up five more points on their travels.
Liverpool have won on seven of their eight previous Premier League trips to these parts, with the only exception coming in 2016.
Burnley demonstrated their away potential with Saturday's shock 2-0 success at Fulham featuring Craven Cottage stunners from Wilson Odobert and Sander Berge, though Klopp is evidently relishing a tough challenge tonight.
"I don't need the Burnley result [at Fulham] to understand their quality," he added.
"Burnley could have easily had much more points because they had so many good spells in the games where they never saw the situation off, because of young players and some decisions.
"If they could finish these situations off they would definitely win more games. I respect Vinny (Vincent Kompany) a lot because he keeps pushing his idea through.
"I'm impressed with what they are doing and we know if you win once and are coming back to your home stadium you want to win again, and that is what we expect from them."
Klopp: Liverpool need to wrap Gomez 'in cotton wool' amid left-back issues
15:26 , George Flood
Jurgen Klopp has played down the idea of a left-back crisis at Liverpool with Tsimikas now joining Robertson on the sidelines, but knows his side will need to start getting a bit of luck on the injury front in their title push.
Robertson is still expected back at some point in January, but until then Klopp wants to keep new de-facto first-choice left-back Joe Gomez out of harm's way.
If he were to also get hurt, then Liverpool would be left needing to rely on the likes of teenage duo Luke Chambers and Calum Scanlon.
"Can Joe play all the games now until I don't know when? I don't know, we'll have to see," said Klopp.
"Robbo will be back (next month) and Kostas will be definitely out for a long while. I didn't have time to think it through yet, but it is really tough for us now.
"You have injuries sometimes and you have to accept all of them, but a broken collarbone is really bad because it takes so long to heal.
"Robbo had a different injury, but it takes a long time to recover as well.
"We all know we need luck in these moments and now we have to just make sure we put Joey in cotton wool and make sure he is ready for the game."
Burnley vs Liverpool prediction
15:13 , George Flood
The visitors may not have it all their own way against a side that can play front-foot, passing football.
But they should have the power to muscle them off with a good press and take their chances on the counter.
Liverpool to win, 3-1.
Liverpool team news
15:12 , George Flood
Liverpool could be without Luis Diaz this evening after the Colombian winger sustained a minor-sounding knee issue against Arsenal on Saturday.
Kostas Tsimikas has also joined Jurgen Klopp's absentee list after breaking his collarbone at the weekend following a clash with Bukayo Saka, meaning Joe Gomez should come in at left-back tonight with Andy Robertson still sidelined after shoulder surgery.
This match will likely come too soon for both Alexis Mac Allister and Diogo Jota, while Joel Matip, Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic are all long-term absentees.
Burnley team news
15:07 , George Flood
Burnley could be boosted by the returns of trio Jack Cork, Aaron Ramsey and Johann Berg Gudmundsson for tonight's tough assignment at Turf Moor.
Midfielders Cork and Ramsey both face late fitness tests following calf and knee issues respectively, while veteran Icelandic winger Gudmundsson was forced off in the draw at Brighton on December 9 with an unspecified issue, missing the subsequent games against Everton and Fulham.

Liverpool head to Burnley this evening for a festive Boxing Day clash as the heavy favourites to go back above Arsenal to the Premier League summit - for a couple of days at least.
Turf Moor has been a very happy hunting ground for Jurgen Klopp's Reds over the years, with a point enough tonight for the title contenders to leapfrog the Gunners again before Mikel Arteta's side - who played out an exhilarating draw at Anfield on Saturday - return to action with a potentially tricky London derby against West Ham on Thursday.
But Burnley appear a slightly different proposition at the moment, shocking Fulham with two stunning goals at Craven Cottage last time out to give Vincent Kompany's men new hope in their battle against an immediate return to the Championship.
Kick-off today is at 5:30pm GMT, so stay tuned for all the latest team news and live updates!
