Bruins Top Trade Target Is Off the Board
Throughout the entirety of the offseason, top prospect Rutger McGroarty was one of the best trade candidates in the NHL. The 2022 first-round pick made it clear that he was unwilling to sign an entry-level deal with the Winnipeg Jets, so a trade was inevitable.

Earlier this summer, the Boston Bruins were among the several suitors in the mix for McGroarty. However, the Bruins' chances of landing him can be forgotten, as he has been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for fellow top prospect Brayden Yager.

There is no question that McGroarty could have been a fantastic addition to the Bruins' roster. The 20-year-old forward has an incredibly bright future and would have had the potential to give the Bruins a big boost on the wing. He can also play down the middle, which naturally raises his value as a player.

McGroarty had an excellent season with the University of Michigan in 2023-24, recording 16 goals, 52 points, and a plus-17 rating. With numbers like these, there is no question that the 6-foot forward has high offensive skill. In addition, has also has been praised for his physicality and two-way play, so he could have been a fantastic addition for the Bruins.
However, while McGroarty is off the board, the Bruins still have some promising young forwards in their system to watch this season, like Fabian Lysell, Matthew Poitras, Johnny Beecher, and Georgii Merkulov.
