While speaking to reporters today (Sept. 30), Bruins general manager Don Sweeney shared that the club has begun extension talks with Brad Marchand, Morgan Geekie, and Trent Frederic's camps.

Out of this trio, Marchand is, of course, the most significant name. Even at 36 years old, Marchand is still a star and one of the Bruins' top players. The Bruins captain played in all 82 games last season, posting 29 goals, 67 points, and a plus-2 rating.

Getting Marchand extended is crucial for the Bruins. The 15-year veteran should be a lifelong Bruin, and it is good to hear that Sweeney is working on making that happen.

Geekie, 26, found immediate success with the Bruins last season and emerged as a key piece of their roster. In 76 games last season, he set new career highs with 17 goals, 22 assists, and 39 points. It was a strong year for the Strathclair, Manitoba native, so it is not shocking that Sweeney is also aiming to extend him.

Given Geekie's big step forward last season, he is naturally due for a raise from his current $2 million cap hit. However, he has fit in beautifully with the Bruins, so extending him would be outstanding.

Frederic, 26, also had a big year for the Bruins in 2023-24. In 82 games, he set new career highs with 18 goals, 22 assists, 40 points, and 204 hits. Overall, he provided strong offense with his immense physicality, so getting him signed beyond this season would be great for the Bruins.

Frederic seems to get better with each passing year, and it would not be particularly surprising if this trend continues into this upcoming season.
