With prospects like Matthew Poitras, Fabian Lysell, and Georgii Merkulov all playing well in Providence, some have wondered why the Bruins called up an older AHLer like Lettieri. While this is the case, there is no question that Lettieri has earned this great opportunity with the NHL squad.
Lettieri, 29, has been Providence's best offensive player this season. In 35 games, he leads the team with 14 goals, 21 assists, and 35 points. In addition, he ranks third in the entire AHL in points, so he has been one of the league's best players.
Lettieri has also not been slowing down in the slightest as the season rolls on. Over his last seven games, he has four goals and eight points.
Lettieri will now look to translate some of his AHL offensive success to the Bruins' bottom six. There is no real harm in the Bruins giving him a shot, and it will be fascinating to see how much of an impact he can make from here.
In 129 career NHL games over six NHL seasons split between the New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks, Bruins, and Minnesota Wild, Lettieri has 12 goals and 27 points.
