Some had wondered if the Bruins would start Joonas Korpisalo against the Red Wings, as he just had a 22-save shutout against the Utah Hockey Club. In addition, Korpisalo has had a .903 save percentage (SV%) or better in four straight starts. However, Swayman is getting back between the pipes.
Swayman will aim to bounce back after back-to-back bad starts. On Nov. 14 against the Dallas Stars, he allowed seven goals on 38 shots. He then gave up five goals on 28 shots on Nov. 18 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. This would be Jim Montgomery's final game as the Bruins' head coach.
In 14 games this season, Swayman has a 5-7-1 record, a 3.47 goals-against average, and a .884 SV%. It has been a brutal start to the season for the Anchorage, Alaska native, but let's see if he takes a much-needed step in the right direction against Detroit from here.
