During it, Sweeney shared with reporters, including 98.5 The Sports Hub's Ty Anderson, that failed extension talks with Montgomery played a role in the decision to part ways with the former bench boss. The Bruins' dreadful play was, of course, the other significant factor, as Sweeney noted.

Montgomery was in the final season of his contract with the Bruins. Thus, the Bruins starting the season so poorly came at the worst time for Montgomery, and now he has been let go because of it.

Given Montgomery's success with the Original Six club, it should not take him very long to find his next job. In 184 games as the Bruins' head coach, he had a 120-41-23 record.
