Bruins Goalie Has Important Thing To Prove
Boston Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalo did not leave the best first impression during the Original Six club's season-opener against the Florida Panthers. The 30-year-old allowed six goals on 35 shots in the frustrating loss.

While Korpisalo was not solely to blame for the Bruins' loss, it was undoubtedly not the first start he wanted to have. This is especially so given that he just had a disastrous season with the Ottawa Senators, posting a 21-26-4 record, a 3.27 goals-against average (GAA), and a .890 save percentage (SV%).
After a rough first start with Boston, Korpisalo must prove to his critics that he can turn things around and be a dependable backup. This is especially so given that he is under contract until the end of the 2027-28 season, carrying a $3 million cap hit for the Bruins (Ottawa retained the other $1 million).
Korpisalo showed just back in 2022-23 that he can be a solid NHL goaltender. In 39 games split between the Columbus Blue Jackets and LA Kings, he had an 18-14-4 record, a .914 SV%, and a 2.87 GAA. If he gets back to a similar form with the Bruins, he could be a nice addition to the Bruins' roster.
It will now be interesting to see if Korpisalo succeeds in proving his critics wrong. If he continues to struggle, it would be far less than ideal, especially with his current contract.
