The Boston Bruins will officially begin training camp today (Sept. 18). This is an incredibly exciting time of the year, as the players get back on the ice. In addition, it also indicates that the regular season is not too far away.
This is also an important time of the year for the players, as there are several of them fighting for a spot on the NHL roster. This is especially the case for the Bruins' forwards this year, as they have multiple spots to fight for after losing several players this offseason.
Because of this, while speaking to reporters, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney sent a big message to the club's players about what they must do to make the opening night roster:
"Early on, he (Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery) is going to want training camp to be a certain pace. If bigger guys can't keep up, they're not going to play."
This is a clear message from Sweeney. He is letting his players know they must be 100% ready and engaged during training camp from the get-go. If they are not, their chances of having a spot in the Bruins' lineup will be in jeopardy.
It will now be fun to see which Bruins players impress during training camp from here.
