Bruins Forward Finds Perfect Fit In New Role

After a tough 3-2 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Dec. 19, the Boston Bruins made some changes to their lineup. They most notably moved Charlie Coyle from the third-line center spot to second-line right wing. So far, this is a change that has benefitted both Coyle and the Bruins greatly.

In his first game at right wing against the Buffalo Sabres on Dec. 21, Coyle scored a goal. He followed that by scoring a goal and adding an assist in the Bruins' 4-1 win against the Washington Capitals on Dec. 23.

While Coyle has spent most of his career as a center, he has fit in beautifully at right wing, playing with Elias Lindholm and Brad Marchand. Because of this, it would not be surprising if they continued to run with this trio moving forward.

Coyle, 32, now has nine goals and 12 points in 36 games this season. While his numbers are still lower than expected, he is starting to trend in the right direction. It will be intriguing to see if he can continue to stay red-hot in his new top-six, right wing role from here.
