The Boston Bruins suffered a truly embarrassing 6-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night (Dec. 27). This is only the latest blowout loss of the Bruins' up-and-down season.

Before the holiday break, the Bruins were on fire, winning two straight games and four out of their previous five. However, they could not translate that success against the Blue Jackets and suffered one of their worst losses of the season because of it.

Following the game, Bruins forward Charlie Coyle got real about the team's play during the disappointing loss.

"We weren't winning many battles," Coyle said. "They were quicker to the puck. They out-battled us. You can't win many games when you're being outworked like that. That's embarrassing."

Coyle also refused to blame the holiday break for the Bruins' struggles:

"It's the same layoff for everyone. They were just ready to play. We weren't, and that's just unacceptable."

It is hard to disagree with Coyle's assessment of the Bruins' play against the Blue Jackets. It was a bad night for the Bruins in all areas, and they were dominated by a team that is below them in the standings.

Coyle and the Bruins will now look to redeem themselves against the Blue Jackets tonight at TD Garden.
