Bruins & New Defender Are Perfect Match

The Boston Bruins made a big splash earlier this offseason, signing defenseman Nikita Zadorov to a six-year, $30 million contract. When noting that the Bruins had been previously connected to Zadorov in recent years, seeing the 29-year-old officially join Boston felt like a long time coming.

It was no secret that the Bruins needed help on the left side of their defense. They let fellow left-shot defenders Matt Grzelcyk and Derek Forbort walk in free agency, so their depth was naturally hit. Thus, bringing in a top-four defender like Zadorov was the right call for the B's.

From here, Zadorov should now be a very important part of the Bruins' defense. When looking at their current depth chart, he is projected to play on their top pairing with Charlie McAvoy. In addition, he will undoubtedly see plenty of penalty-kill time, as he is an impactful shutdown defenseman.

However, besides giving the Bruins a much-needed top-four defenseman, he also looks like a perfect fit because of his immensely physical style of play. The Bruins have been in need of a big and mean defenseman on their blueline, and Zadorov will provide them with just that. This should especially come in handy during the playoffs, as he showed this past spring with the Vancouver Canucks.

It will be very interesting to see how much of an impact Zadorov can make for the Bruins from here.
