Bronny James to join his father, LeBron, on the Los Angeles Lakers. Plus, a look at the NHL Draft.

The Father-Son Duo Take LA

With the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James. That’s right, we’re getting a father-son duo in LA. It’s a first for the league, which has never had a father and son grace the court at the same time, let alone for the same team.

The basketball world wasn’t quite sure Bronny would make it to the NBA after a cardiac arrest episode nearly derailed his college career. But after a year at the University of Southern California, Bronny James will, in fact, don a Lakers jersey this fall. I can almost hear the ticket prices going up.

Here’s a look at how the NBA community reacted.

In other draft news, as expected, the No. 1 overall pick was Zaccharie Risacher, the Frenchman drafted by the Atlanta Hawks. His fellow countryman and 2023 No. 1 overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama had a lot to say about France’s future impact on the NBA, as well as looking forward to France vs. USA in the Olympics.

Hockey ready for 2024 NHL Draft

Basketball isn’t the only draft this week, as the NHL gets ready to make their picks on Friday. The San Jose Sharks have the No. 1 overall pick, and they are expected to take Macklin Celebrini. Celebrini is a Vancouver native from Boston University, who has reportedly been playing hockey since he was four years old.

Sports seem to run in the Celebrini DNA. Macklin’s older brother was his teammate at BU, before being drafted by their hometown Vancouver Canucks. And their father, Rick Celebrini, is the director of Sports Medicine and Performance with the Golden State Warriors, which led the family to relocating to northern California when Macklin was 13. It was there Macklin suited up for the Sharks, making this draft a full-circle moment for the Celebrini family.
