Britain's Henry Patten and Finnish partner Harri Heliovaara were one of very few doubles teams who got their Wimbledon campaigns under way as rain delayed proceedings.

The unseeded pair claimed a decisive straight-set win over fifth seeded Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 6-3 6-4.

British duo Jacob Fearnley and Jack Pinnington Jones lost to Brazil's Rafael Matos and Marcelo Melo 6-4 7-6 (7-5).

Fearnley won his debut singles first round match at SW19 and faces seven-time champion Novak Djokovic on Thursday.

British women's number two Harriet Dart was one of the many Britons whose doubles matches were postponed as rain delayed play throughout the day.

She will face British women's number one Katie Boulter in their second-round singles match on Thursday.
