British Open tee times

The British Open — or simply, The Open, as they call it across the pond — returns to Carnoustie, site of the infamous Jean van de Velde meltdown. It’s been 19 years since Van de Velde epically choked away a Claret Jug on the tournament’s final hole. So plan on hearing plenty about that in the next few days, much to JVDV’s chagrin.

As for this year’s edition, here’s a look at the who, what and when:

Is there a marquee group?

Not really. The closest thing to a supergroup is Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose and Kiradech Aphibarnrat, who has the best name in golf. They go off at 4:58 a.m. ET Thursday. Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm (5:09 a.m.) will tee it up together in the first two rounds, a pairing of the two best players in the world not to have won a major.

When does Tiger Woods tee off?

No need to set the alarm for Tiger on Thursday, who goes off at 10:21 a.m. Thursday. He’s paired with Hideki Matsuyama and Russell Knox.

Who is the favorite to win?

Per OddsShark, Dustin Johnson (11-1) and Rory McIlroy (12-1) are the favorites to win. Other favorites include the usual suspects: Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood are all 16-1. U.S. Open champ Brooks Koepka is 20-1, as is … Tiger Woods.
