Bristol City have completed the signing of Watford defender Harley Bennett on a one-year deal with the option of an additional year.

The Robins announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

The 34-year-old centre-back has a wealth of experience at Barclays Women’s Championship level having played in the second tier for the last six years. Bennett has turned out for Charlton Athletic, London City Lionesses and Watford at that level.

Bennett is known for her strong defending and leadership skills. She was named captain for a period at former club London City Lionesses. The player should be an asset for new club Bristol City both on and off the pitch this season.

After completing her move to Ashton Gate, Bennett said “I’m delighted to be here. The club have huge ambitions and want to go straight back up, so I’m excited to be part of it.

“To get such good crowds like the club have been doing is amazing too, and I can’t wait to meet the fans.”

Bennett becomes Bristol City’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The Robins have also brought in former Southampton winger Lexi Lloyd-Smith so far this summer.
