Brian Thomas Jr. injury update: Jaguars WR considered 'day-to-day' with chest injury

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. suffered an injury in the third quarter against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8. The star rookie wide receiver exited the game and did not return to the contest.

Thomas Jr. is off to an outstanding start to the 2024 season, and an absence would be a significant loss for the Jaguars' struggling offense. He leads all rookie receivers in yards and is tied with Marvin Harrison Jr. for the most by a rookie in 2024 with five touchdowns.

Here's the latest on the Jaguars wideout's status:

Brian Thomas Jr. injury update

The Jaguars ruled Thomas out for the remainder of their Week 8 game against the Packers because of a chest injury. He finished his day with three catches for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Thomas left the game with 5:10 in the third quarter, with the Jaguars leading 17-13.

He reeled in a 14-yard touchdown catch from Trevor Lawrence and appeared to injure his chest/ribs when he landed in the back of the end zone.

Thomas left the game after securing the touchdown grab. On the ensuing drive, Jacksonville lost wide receiver Christian Kirk to a season-ending broken collarbone.

On Monday, Oct. 28, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Thomas could miss 2-4 weeks with the rib injury.

However, head coach Doug Pederson told reporters the rookie receiver is day-to-day with a contusion on the left side of his chest. The MRI did not show anything more severe, and there's a chance he could play against the Philadelphia Eagles next week.

Jaguars WR depth chart

With Christian Kirk done for the season, veteran offseason acquisition Gabe Davis could be tasked with a heavier workload. Davis also left the Week 8 loss with a shoulder injury.

Washington and Tim Jones are Jacksonville's only remaining healthy receivers. Washington is in his second season and will likely be tasked with filling Kirk's role as the slot receiver.

Brian Thomas Jr. stats

  • 33 receptions (tied for 23rd)

  • 573 yards (sixth most in NFL)

  • 5 touchdowns (tied for third most)
