Brewers fans booed Manny Machado mercilessly and all he could do was strike out

Manny Machado, the villain of the baseball postseason, walked into Milwaukee’s Miller Park on Friday night, preparing to face a crowd that would unquestionably be booing him. The question of the night was whether Machado would walk out of Miller Park having helped the Los Angeles Dodgers reach the World Series.

The answer: He had the night every Brewers fan hoped he would. And now the series is headed to Game 7.

No World Series berth, not on this night at least. No notable contributions in the Dodgers’ 7-2 loss. Enough boos that he could open up a bar. And, in the biggest chance he had to hurt the Milwaukee Brewers, Machado whiffed.

In the Los Angeles portion of the National League Championship Series, Machado behaved like a pro wrestling heel in the weeks before a pay-per-view. He had two questionable slides, one that was ruled in violation of MLB’s rules. He was in the middle of a bases-clearing argument between the Dodgers and the Brewers when he didn’t even bother not clipping on first baseman Jesús Aguilar while running out a grounder, then seemed to kick Aguilar afterward.

So when Machado came to bat for the Dodgers the first time?

In the first inning, after the Dodgers scored first on a David Freese home run and Justin Turner singled, Machado struck out against starter Wade Miley. And this photo taken right after might best capture how Milwaukee felt about Manny. There are like 10 different levels of disdain in here.

In the third inning, he popped out to end the inning. In the fifth, with the Dodgers trailing 5-2 and runners at first and second base with two outs, Machado had a chance to make a serious impact. A homer would have reset the game. Instead, he struck out swinging. He finished the night 0-for-4 with the two strikeouts.

And if you think the Brewers fans weren’t loving every minute of it … please, just look at this picture.

That’s A+ trolling. And you know what? It would appear that Machado didn’t seem at all bothered by it. In fact, he seemed to relish in the boos in one moment

Just like the best heels do.
