Brentford vs Fulham LIVE!

Brentford fuelled their ambition of playing European football with a 3-2 home victory over fellow hopefuls Fulham to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 12 games on Monday. Ivan Toney's second-half penalty and a late effort by Mathias Jensen sealed the points for ninth-placed Brentford against their west London rivals to edge them closer to the European qualification places.

Toney, who is facing FA charges and a possible ban after alleged breaches of gambling rules, coolly slotted his kick past Fulham keeper Bernd Leno in the 53rd minute after a clumsy foul by Issa Diop on Christian Norgaard. Jensen then tapped in from a tight angle after a superb run and cut back by Kevin Schade in the 85th minute to kill of a below-par Fulham whose four-game unbeaten run came to an end.

Brentford had taken an early lead with a deflected shot by Ethan Pinnock but Fulham hit back shortly before halftime when Manor Solomon scored for the fourth successive league match. Fulham's Carlos Vinicius did grab a stoppage-time consolation with almost the last kick but Thomas Frank's Brentford side are now unbeaten in the Premier League since October and have 38 points from 24 games, one point behind seventh-placed Fulham and four behind fifth-placed Liverpool.

GOOAALLL!! Brentford 3-2 Fulham

22:02 , Marc Mayo

90+8 mins: Raya spills a shot straight to Vinicius and Fulham score!

21:57 , Marc Mayo

90+5 mins: On target from Reed as he picks out a volley from 35 yards with decent power but Raya finds it easy to grab the bouncing ball.

21:56 , Marc Mayo

90+3 mins: A chunky bit of stoppage time may give Fulham fans some hope but, in truth, it’s all Brentford with the ball.

The home fans are even breaking out the ‘Ole’ chants!

21:54 , Marc Mayo

90 mins: The flag goes up as Mitrovic pops up to steer a cross in, which is cleared by Mee nonetheless.

Two more Brentford changes as eight minutes of stoppage time are confirmed.

On come Dasilva and Hickey with Mbeumo and Roserslev off.

Fulham chance!

21:53 , Marc Mayo

89 mins: Mitrovic flicks a cross goalwards from the near post and Raya is up to parry it over! Good save.

21:50 , Marc Mayo

87 mins: The young German has not made a huge impression in his five substitute appearances before tonight but that run and cross from Schade was superb. He left Robinson for dead.

GGGOOOOAAALLL!!!! Brentford 3-1 Fulham

21:48 , Marc Mayo

85 mins: THAT SHOULD BE THAT!

Lovely run from Schade and Jensen turns his cross home from close range!

21:46 , Marc Mayo

83 mins: Jensen flashes a half-volley across the face of goal and wide - prompting the Fulham substitutions.

Willian and Tete depart for Vinicius and Cedric.

21:45 , Marc Mayo

82 mins: Brentford have dealt with being in the lead at 2-1 far better than they did at 1-0.

Fulham again look to their bench having not really laid a glove on their hosts since Toney’s penalty.

21:41 , Marc Mayo

78 mins: Robinson overlaps down the left to win a corner as Fulham look to spark up what is becoming a bit of a low-key ending to this derby.

A short set play is worked to Reed and Toney deals with Mitrovic at the far post.

21:39 , Marc Mayo

75 mins: Here come double changes by both teams.

Wilson and Decordova-Reid replace Solomon and Lukic in an attacking move by Fulham.

Brentford bring Schade and Janelt on for Wissa and Damsgaard.

21:36 , Marc Mayo

72 mins: Brentford pause their plans for a freshen up as Decordova-Reid is summoned to strip off from his Fulham training gear.

Close!

21:33 , Marc Mayo

69 mins: Superb from Toney as he takes a peak from the halfway line and attempts to lob Leno... and it’s only just over the bar as the goalkeeper scrambled back!

He might have just had that one covered.

21:31 , Marc Mayo

67 mins: Tete has a cut above his eyebrow patched up after becoming the second Fulham player to pick up a facial wound tonight.

The visitors briefly down to ten as Brentford rouse two troops from their bench.

21:28 , Marc Mayo

65 mins: A stoppage in play after a clash of heads between Wissa and Tete.

21:27 , Marc Mayo

64 mins: Pinnock does excellently to stretch and divert a cross with Mitrovic lurking right behind him.

Lukic then flies a slash over the bar.

Malik Ouzia at Gtech Community Stadium

21:26 , Marc Mayo

I remember being at Griffin Park around halfway through the final season there when Brentford beat QPR in a west London derby and the first chants of “we’re going to win the league” started up.

They proved wide of the mark but I’ve just heard a smattering of “we’re all going on a European tour” here.

21:25 , Marc Mayo

61 mins: Mitrovic booked for nagging into the ear of the referee a little too much.

Can’t think there’s been a huge amount for Fulham to complain of with the officiating tonight.

21:22 , Marc Mayo

58 mins: Brentford fans signing ‘Fulham get battered everywhere they go’ as the home side put together another attack.

And people say this isn’t a proper rivarly...

Watch: A silky smooth penalty puts Brentford back ahead

21:19 , Marc Mayo

21:17 , Marc Mayo

54 mins: Just like after the first Brentford goal, we’re delayed from restarting due to a flare hurled onto the pitch.

Those rowdy west London folk...

Malik Ouzia at Gtech Community Stadium

21:15 , Marc Mayo

Can you say he always backs himself to score?

GGGOOOAAALLL!!!! Brentford 2-1 Fulham

21:14 , Marc Mayo

52 mins: TONEY SCORES!

Never. In Doubt.

The Brentford man watches Leno and simply rolls it into the far corner - the goalkeeper not able to save it despite going the right way!

PENALTY BRENTFORD!

21:13 , Marc Mayo

50 mins: A long throw into the box causes problems and Anthony Taylor points to the spot!

Diop flings a boot at the ball and only caught Norgaard to leave the Dane on the deck.

21:12 , Marc Mayo

48 mins: A bit more of a press by Brentford and Toney misplaces his pass into the box.

Fulham come forward quickly and Pereira turns a deflected Robinson cross over the bar!

21:09 , Marc Mayo

46 mins: Early movement from Brentford as Leno falls on a stinging low cross from Wissa.

Fulham respond by settling back into the possession that eventually forced their leveller in the first period.

Kick-off! Brentford 1-1 Fulham

21:08 , Marc Mayo

The players are back out with no changes for either side in west London.

Stunning Solomon

The Fulham winger has four goals in just 116 minutes of league football since coming off the bench against Nottingham Forest last month.

Remember, this was his first ever Premier League start...

Fulham will be pleased to go in level

21:00 , Marc Mayo

It’s not about how you start but how you finish - that may well be the message in the Fulham dressing room as they go in level.

Lukic could easily have been sent off but Solomon scoring for the fifth game in a row has given them a good chance of all three points in this derby.

The Bees fail to keep up their momentum

20:57 , Marc Mayo

A flying start from Brentford earned them the lead after Mbeumo failed to convert two huge chances.

Bit since Pinnock’s goal it was all a bit tame and they were punished late in the half with Solomon’s leveller.

Thomas Frank will be unhappy they failed to push on.

Half time! Brentford 1-1 Fulham

All square in the west London derby.

Malik Ouzia at Gtech Community Stadium

20:50 , Marc Mayo

That is a big call from Anthony Taylor. If Lukic isn’t already in the book that’s a yellow card every day of the week. I think Fulham should be down to ten.

20:50 , Marc Mayo

45+2 mins: Lukic leaves one on Wissa as the Brentford man breaks through on the counter - and he’s already been booked!

Anthony Taylor decides against delivering a second yellow...

20:49 , Marc Mayo

45+1 mins: A delay in the restart as Lukic needs attention for a cut to his cheek after an unfortunate tangle with Toney.

20:47 , Marc Mayo

45 mins: Three minutes added on.

20:45 , Marc Mayo

42 mins: Some life from the Bees after the equaliser, Brentford having dropped a bit too deep when in the lead.

Pinnock wins a corner from a long throw into the box. Fulham nod clear and Willian wins a foul for throwing himself at the second header.

Malik Ouzia at Gtech Community Stadium

20:43 , Marc Mayo

Those were Fulham’s second and third shots of the night but it wasn’t exactly smash and grab. They’ve gradually fought their way back into this game, keeping the ball well.

GGGOOOOAAALLLL!!! Brentford 1-1 Fulham

20:41 , Marc Mayo

39 mins: VAR check for Damsgaard leaving a boot on Reed as he departed the 18-yard box - and it came just in time to not concede a penalty.

Still, a good free-kick spot inside the D. Pereira takes... it hits the bar and SOLOMON HEADS HOME THE REBOUND!

20:38 , Marc Mayo

Free-kick practice must be pretty tasty down at Jersey Road. Mbuemo hit the outside of the post with one earlier but that was even better from Toney, clanking off the top of the bar.

Close!

20:38 , Marc Mayo

36 mins: It’s Toney to take... a fierce whack clips the frame of the goal!

20:37 , Marc Mayo

35 mins: Lukic booked for ending a Damsgaard burst with a late tackle.

Good spot, this. Just over 25 yards out, to the left of goal...

20:36 , Marc Mayo

34 mins: It’s all on the counter now for Brentford as Fulham settle in on the edge of their final third.

Hickey looks long for Wissa and the winger trips Tete to concede a free-kick.

20:33 , Marc Mayo

30 mins: Fulham have done a good job of calming Brentford’s early dominance, even if they only woke up after conceding the opening goal.

The away side has arguably been the better team since going behind.

20:30 , Marc Mayo

27 mins: Toney has a go at the audacious after a pass forward is just behind the striker and he nudges it towards Wissa with his backside... but it fails to come off. Cheeky, though.

Malik Ouzia at Gtech Community Stadium

20:27 , Marc Mayo

Great decision from Anthony Taylor. From over here it looked as if Toney had bundled into the back of Willian but it’s a shocker of a dive.

20:27 , Marc Mayo

25 mins: Anthony Taylor earns the adoration of the home fans for booking Willian as he dives under the slightest bit of pressure by Toney.

20:25 , Marc Mayo

22 mins: Solomon picks up the ball in a dangerous area after Mitrovic tries to slink his way through a number of challenges.

Fulham pushed back but are holding onto the ball better now, building attacks slowly but surely.

20:23 , Marc Mayo

20 mins: Fulham comfortably on top in the possession stats but Brentford’s skill in attacking quickly is shown by Raya’s long kick out being sweetly turned Wissa’s way... the Cottagers just about get it clear.

More patient from the visitors up the other end but the Bees look at ease.

17 mins: Mbeumo clips a lovely free-kick towards Leno’s left-hand post and the goalkeeper is rooted to the spot as it kisses the woodwork and drifts wide.

Malik Ouzia at Gtech Community Stadium

20:18 , Marc Mayo

I’m almost surprised to see Jensen get up so soon and looking okay after that. Completely accidental but that looked a heck of a collision, particularly as he didn’t see it coming.

Watch back the opening goal

20:15 , Marc Mayo

20:15 , Marc Mayo

12 mins: Damsgaard picks out a lovely pass into Wissa which Tete tracks well to nudge back to Leno, and a really calm pass out from the back by the goalkeeper ends the attack.

That’s how you do it, Alisson.

20:11 , Marc Mayo

9 mins: A first Fulham attack sees Mitrovic nod a cross back across the box but Brentford are back in numbers to marshall it back to Raya.

Malik Ouzia at Gtech Community Stadium

20:09 , Marc Mayo

Fully deserved opener, if a tad fortuitous, for a Brentford side who have started brilliantly.

There’s a flare on in the middle of the Brentford box which we’re going to have to wait to clear before the restart.

GGGOOOOAAALLLL!!! Brentford 1-0 Fulham

20:08 , Marc Mayo

6 mins: PINNOCK!

Fulham fail to clear a corner and the recycled attack lands at the feet of the centre-back, who lashes home via a deflection off Ream. That may go down as an own goal...

Brentford deservedly lead!

Brentford chance!

20:07 , Marc Mayo

5 mins: Mbeumo again as he darts in behind and shoots across Leno, who makes a nice stop with his legs.

Fulham fail to clear and the Bees have a corner...

Malik Ouzia at Gtech Community Stadium

20:06 , Marc Mayo

Fulham’s fans were halfway through a chorus of “Toney, what’s the odds?” - not entirely grammatically correct - when they were silenced by that ball across the face of goal.

It’s one of the misses of the season from Mbeumo.

Brentford chance!

20:05 , Marc Mayo

4 mins: The Bees have flown out the traps under the west London rain...

Mbeumo somehow places a huge chance off target after a low cross to the far post!

Brentford chance!

3 mins: Toney stings the palms of Leno after Fulham give the ball away in their own half.

Fulham famously beat Brentford in the 2020 Championship play-off final, since when they have only met twice.

Brentford exacted a measure of revenge with a 3-0 Carabao Cup success in October of that same year, though Fulham won the first-ever Premier League meeting between the rivals 3-2 at the Cottage in August thanks to a late Mitrovic effort.

Bernd Leno interview

19:44 , Marc Mayo

Ahead of tonight’s game, our reporter Dom Smith caught up with Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno on his life in the capital after hopping over from Arsenal.

“It was clear for me, I wanted to stay in the Premier League,” he told Standard Sport. “It’s the best league in the world by far — and London life, I really love it here.

“I spoke to people at Arsenal about wanting to join Fulham. Everyone said it’s a nice family club. And I played many times against Fulham and it is an old-school stadium. All these aspects played a role.

“The goalkeeper coach [Hugo Oliveira] and the manager [Silva] spoke to me about their plans. Hugo is a very good coach. I love my job, and if you have someone who is always smiling, he lifts you up in difficult times.”

The Fulham boss spoke ahead of tonight’s game about taking Brentford very seriously in this west London affair.

“I think it will be a tough one and I think it will be a proper derby again,” he stated.

“We are going to face a team in really good form. They’re unbeaten in the last 11 games in the Premier League and they know as well that they’re going to face a strong Fulham side and a team that is going to go there and fight for the three points.”

Fulham find cover for Joao Palhinha

19:14 , Marc Mayo

The suspended midfielder could be a big miss for the Cottagers, who bring Harrison Reed back into the XI to partner Sasa Lukic in the centre of the park.

Otherwise, there are a total of five changes from the win over Leeds. Tete and Issa Diop return in defence with Willian back on the wing. Bernd Leno takes up his post in between the sticks.

One change for Brentford

19:09 , Marc Mayo

Mikkel Damsgaard replaces Josh Dasilva from the Brentford line-up which started that Crystal Palace draw over two weeks ago.

The Bees have Pontus Jansson and Frank Onyeka back on the bench after injury but Thomas Strakosha misses out.

Team news coming up shortly!

How will the Bees get on?

18:53 , Marc Mayo

It’s been 16 long days since Brentford were last in action, with a 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace.

That’s because their opponents last weekened were involved in the Carabao Cup and the midweek FA Cup action did not involve the Bees - with Fulham playing twice since their last game.

Perhaps a spot of rustiness for the home side to overcome, then.

Tonight’s destination

18:47 , Marc Mayo

Gtech Community Stadium has been a very happy hunting ground for the Bees this season, with only Arsenal gaining a Premier League victory over Brentford on the banks of the M4.

However, adding cup competitions into the mix and their home record in 2022-23 is a fairly meagre W6 D5 L3.

Evening Standard score prediction

18:26 , Marc Mayo

This is a tasty derby showdown under the lights between two sides that continue to confound modest expectations.

Brentford tend to be a force to be reckoned with when that unique home stadium is packed and rocking, though Fulham fear no one this season and have the excellent Mitrovic back leading the line.

An entertaining draw not short on goals, incident and pacy attacking football is what we’re forecasting.

Brentford 2-2 Fulham.

Predicted Fulham XI (4-2-3-1): Leno; Tete, Diop, Ream, Robinson; Reed, Lukic; Solomon, Pereira, Willian; Mitrovic.

Early Fulham team news

18:16 , Marc Mayo

Fulham have been dealt a sizable blow by the absence of star summer signing Joao Palhinha, who will serve a two-match suspension after accumulating 10 yellow cards.

The influential Portuguese midfielder will also miss the visit of Arsenal to Craven Cottage next weekend.

Layvin Kurzawa, Neeskens Kebano and Tom Cairney are also out, though talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic is fit after starting the 2-0 FA Cup fifth-round win over Leeds on Tuesday.

18:11 , Marc Mayo

Predicted Brentford XI (4-3-3): Raya; Hickey, Pinnock, Mee, Henry; Dasilva, Norgaard, Jensen; Mbeumo, Toney, Wissa.

Brentford vs Fulham

17:56 , Marc Mayo

Hello and welcome!

For this particular west London derby, August’s edition seemed heady enough, Brentford and Fulham meeting in the top flight of English football for the first time ever.

This was, after all, a rivalry that until 2014 had lay dormant for the best part of two decades and, for a certain generation before that, tended to play out in the third tier.

Yet here we are, with just a third of the season to go, and the second Premier League clash of the neighbours comes with European football on the line.

Fulham currently sit seventh, while Brentford are ninth, four points behind their rivals but with two games in hand, and neither are there by chance.

Kick-off comes at 8pm from Gtech Community Stadium.
