Brentford plot Manchester United downfall to create another ‘magic moment’ during debut Premier League season

Thomas Frank wants to create another “magic moment” in Brentford’s history by toppling Manchester United tonight.

The Bees have enjoyed a solid debut season in the Premier League so far, including wins over Arsenal and West Ham.

Brentford also held Liverpool to a draw at home and suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Chelsea.

Manchester United are the latest side to make the trip to west London in tonight’s rearranged fixture and Frank is hoping to claim another big scalp.

“They are one of the biggest clubs in the world with unbelievable players,” he said. “On their day they can produce magic out of nothing.

“Against Aston Villa, [Bruno] Fernandes created two chances out of nothing. When [Cristiano] Ronaldo has played, he has produced chances and goals.

“I expect us to come out with a performance. I will do my best to have a team that comes out aggressive and plays with intensity.

“Our fans need to be bang on it; I hope we can create another magic moment in Brentford’s history. That’s our aim.”

While there is excitement among Brentford fans at the prospect of facing Manchester United, there is also a buzz due to the club’s interest in Christian Eriksen.

The former Tottenham midfielder, who suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020 last summer, is on the lookout for a new club this month.

The midfielder had his contract cancelled by Inter Milan after being told he could not play in Serie A after being fitted with an implanted cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), which is a type of pacemaker.

Eriksen could play in England, though, and Brentford are one of several top-flight sides tracking him this month.

“He is a really good player, we all know that he is top a Danish player,” said Frank. “If we were linked with Christian 10 or even five years ago, fans would say are you crazy. But we are in the best league in world, the club progressing. It’s positive.”

Brentford have no fresh injury concerns for tonight’s game, but Frank could make changes following Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool.
