Brentford move for Archie Gray collapses as Leeds reject £40m bid amid Tottenham interest

Brentford’s bid to sign Leeds midfielder Archie Gray has collapsed.

The 18-year-old had been booked in for a medical after personal terms were agreed for a move worth £40million.

But Leeds have now rejected the Bees’ approach after failing to agree on a final fee and payment structure.

Tottenham remain strongly interested in Gray following his fine breakout season at Elland Road, which earned him a debut with the England Under-21s team. Chelsea have also tracked his recent progress.

It has been reported that Leeds are considering selling one or two of their star players having failed to win promotion back to the Premier League, with Crysencio Summerville also tipped to leave to help adhere to financial rules.

The collapse of the Gray deal leaves Brentford still likely hoping to bolster their midfield options this summer, having released Shandon Baptiste.

Igor Thiago is set to arrive as their headline summer signing to improve the attack in a £33m deal agreed in February. Ivan Toney has been linked with an exit.
