Breaking: Manchester City set to sign Savio on five-year contract – Plans confirmed for Brazil international

Manchester City are on the verge of signing Brazil international Savio on a five-year contract, reports have confirmed on Tuesday.

Savio has been with the City Football Group for a number of years now, following a four-year stay at Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro before joining the CFG in 2022 and subsequently being assigned to French club ESTAC Troyes.

Having not played a single game for the French club, Savio’s first experience of European football came during a loan deal with Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven, where he played eight first-team games for the club before embarking on a second successive loan at Girona.

And it was Savio’s form at the La Liga side during the most recent campaign that saw him targeted and recruited by Manchester City, following an output of nine Spanish top-flight goals and 10 assists, securing their first appearance in the UEFA Champions League.

As per the information of The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai and Sam Lee, Manchester City are now set to sign Savio on a five-year-contract, making the Brazil international their first signing of the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old is currently away on international duty with Brazil at the ongoing Copa America tournament, but will sign a long-term contract with the Premier League champions through to the summer of 2029.

Crucially, The Athletic also confirm that Manchester City have informed Savio of their intention for him to be part of their first-team plans under Pep Guardiola during the forthcoming 2024/25 season.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
