BREAKING: Manchester City reach final agreement with Lens over Abdukodir Khusanov

Manchester City officials have finalised and concluded an agreement with Lens over the signing of 20-year-old centre-back, Abdukodir Khusanov.

The Uzbekistan international is set to become the Premier League champions’ first signing of an increasingly busy transfer window in the middle of the ongoing campaign, with interest in numerous other talents from across the globe.

Khusanov will also become the first ever Uzbek footballer to feature in the Premier League and is expected to join up with Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad immediately in the hope of reviving a challenging campaign so far.

Lens have actively been attempting to source a deal for the player this month and handed globally-renowned agent Jorge Mendes to bring an opportunity to the table, with City showing no hesitation to agree personal terms with the defender and progress with direct negotiations.

And after several days of interactions between the Premier League and Ligue 1 sides, there has been a resolution to their differences over a deal to bring Abdukodir Khusanov to the Etihad Stadium in the coming days.

As broken by French journalist Julien Laurens on Friday night, Manchester City and Lens have reached a full agreement over Abdukodir Khusanov, with only a few details to sort out over the course of the weekend before the 20-year-old can be regarded as an Etihad Stadium player.

According to the information of The Athletic’s David Ornstein, City’s agreement with Lens to sign Khusanov is worth €40 million plus bonuses, with the defender poised to sign a four-and-a-half year contract including an option to extend by 12 months.

Additional reporting from ESPN’s Rob Dawson has detailed that the player’s representatives are in Manchester to discuss final details and a medical could take place over the weekend before an official announcement.

It is further detailed that Lens had wanted to keep the defender for another six months but had to agree a deal to balance their books, and had asked super agent Jorge Mendes to find the player a new club this month.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
