Let me tell you a heartwarming story of persistence, patience and faith that has led the great city of Boston through a painstaking 103 days since its last championship appearance.

The Boston Bruins finally ended the long suffering in New England Thursday night as they punched their ticket to the big dance with a sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference finals.

Many moons ago, it was the New England Patriots who ended Boston’s previous drought of 84 days without a championship appearance when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs to reach Super Bowl LII. You may recall that after that win, Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski had a little fun with their haters by posting a video of them singing along to P. Diddy’s “Bad Boys For Life.”

Following Thursday’s win defenseman Charlie McAvoy paid tribute to the king of New England, who helped pave a road of success through the harrowing Boston sports scene.

On another inspirational note, it’s great to see the spirits in Boston have lifted since the Celtics were eliminated from the NBA playoffs week, ruining a perfect chance for the city to complete a supernatural sweep of four major championships in one calendar year. There’s always next year, Boston.
