Boston Bruins Place Tyler Johnson On Unconditional Waivers

The Boston Bruins' Tyler Johnson experiment is coming to an end.

The Bruins announced they placed Johnson on unconditional waivers for the purposes of contract termination. If he clears waivers on Friday, he'll become a UFA.

Boston signed Johnson to a one-year, $775,000 contract on Nov. 4 after he had a PTO. He played nine games and recorded two assists while averaging 13:05 of ice time.

In the pre-season, Johnson had a goal and assist for two points. But Johnson has only played one game in December, which came on Dec. 12. The Bruins also claimed right winger Oliver Wahlstrom off waivers from the New York Islanders on Dec. 14

Johnson is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he played nine seasons. Overall, he's played 747 NHL games and has 193 goals and 240 assists in 433 points. Last season, he had 31 points with the Chicago Blackhawks, including 17 goals and 14 assists.
