Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund are now closing in on a total agreement for the transfer of Yan Couto, according to reports.

The Brazilian full-back has reached a dilemma in his top-level playing career in European football, having returned to the Etihad Stadium off the back of his most successful loan spell to date away from Manchester City.

Having played an integral role in Girona’s successful pursuit of UEFA Champions League football for the upcoming season, there had initially been hope that Couto could return to the Catalan club on another loan, or permanent agreement.

However, UEFA ruling has since blocked Girona and Manchester City from completing any inter-club transfers with the two sides partaking in the same European club competition next season.

As such, Couto and his representatives have been forced to seek other alternatives and possible destinations throughout the European game, and a solution from Germany appears to be his favoured route away from the Etihad Stadium.

According to the information of BILD, as translated and relayed by BVB Newsblog on X, Manchester City’s right-back is now on the verge of a transfer to Borussia Dortmund this summer.

It is explained that the Bundesliga side and Etihad Stadium officials are ‘not far apart’ on a transfer fee, with Manchester City demanding €30 million, whilst Dortmund are offering €20 million plus another €5 million in bonuses.

Such is the advanced nature of negotiations that the report also points out that it remains ‘quite possible’ that the Brazil international defender will be able to link up with the Borussia Dortmund at their pre-season training camp in Switzerland.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
