Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of Maximilian Beier from Hoffenheim for an initial €28m.

The fee could rise to near €30m if add-ons are met across the five-year contract signed by the forward at the Westfalenstadion.

Beier makes the move to the 2023/24 Champions League finalists after a breakthrough campaign last season, both with Hoffenheim and the German national team.

Having made his debut for his parent club in February 2020, and scoring twice in the Europa League later that year, he spent both the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons on loan at Hannover in Bundesliga 2.

On return to Hoffenheim last summer, he made his mark, scoring 16 goals in 35 appearances, helping his side to a seventh-placed finish and earning himself an international call-up. He subsequently was part of the Germany squad for EURO 2024, coming off the bench in their final group game against Switzerland.

The 21-year-old will be tasked with replacing the goals of German colleague, Niclas Füllkrug, who left for West Ham earlier in the month.

Beier becomes Dortmund’s fifth signing of a busy summer following the arrivals of Serhou Guirassy, Waldemar Anton, Pascal Groß and Yan Couto, as new head coach Nuri Şahin looks to put his stamp on the side and bounce back from a disappointing fifth-placed league finish last season.
