Will Borgen Filled With Mixed Emotions Following Trade To Rangers

Will Borgen is set to make his New York Rangers debut on Friday night against the Dallas Stars.

Peter Laviolette confirmed that Borgen will be in the Rangers’ lineup just two days after being traded by the Seattle Kraken.

Borgen wasn’t necessarily shocked by the trade that brought him to The Big Apple and he’s excited to start this next chapter of his career.

“It was a mix of emotions,” Borgen said via Peter Baugh of The Athletic. “I was in Seattle from the beginning there. Had a lot of fun there. But I’m excited to be here. Original Six team, New York City.”

The Rangers need help defensively and Borgen could certainly assist the team in that department.

“I think I’m a pretty good skating defenseman," Borgen said via Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today. “I can skate with most guys, and I’m physical. I play with a little bit of an edge and try to bring that every night. I try to get some energy for the group.”

Borgen was selected with the 92 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He ultimately was claimed by the Kraken during the 2021 NHL expansion draft.

In 247 NHL games, the 27-year-old has recorded nine goals, 46 assists and 55 points.

This season, Borgen has tallied one goal, one assist and two points in 33 games while averaging 15:12 minutes.

Laviolette said Borgen will be paired alongside Braden Schneider for his debut with the Rangers.
