Bolts Hold Maple Leafs to Under in Low-Scoring Affair, Blues Cool Off Red Hot Flyers in Saturday Best Bets
Saturday has a loaded slate of NHL action with 12 games that should excite fans and give us more variety when it comes to making picks. We look to hit it big after getting hot over our last few picks with a 4-2 record.
All betting lines are from Bet365 and are subject to change. Hockey is a difficult sport to predict so please gamble responsibly.
Bet: Maple Leafs Lightning Under 6.5 goals (-125)
The Leafs have been rolling lately with wins in seven of their last nine games and are coming off a bad 4-1 loss Wednesday versus the Panthers, which they will look to rebound from in a good matchup against Tampa Bay.
Despite beating them routinely in the playoffs, the Bolts have struggled against the Leafs in the regular season with just three wins in their last ten matchups. Tampa Bay had started off the season on a great note but have since lost three of their last five games. They've struggled to keep pucks out of their net lately with 20 goals allowed over their last five games which is fifth-most in the NHL during that span.
These two have also combined for seven or more goals in ten of their last 14 matchups which makes the line favouring the under quite peculiar. This is for a reason as the Leafs have been one of the best defensive teams in the NHL this season with the third-best goals against average at 2.59 trailing behind the Wild and Jets.
The Bolts also improve drastically when playing in their own building from their season goals against average at 3.05 down to 2.09 which is third-best in the league at home. Some lines try to entice betters and the over is this game is certainly one of them. Trust the under as it's heavily favoured for a good reason.
Bet: Blues ML (-135), Flyers Blues Under 5.5 goals (-105)
The Flyers have been playing exceptionally well compared to their start of the season and are 7-2-2 in their last 11 games. They travel to St. Louis to take on a Blues team that is starting to piece things together with new bench boss Jim Montgomery as they've won two straight. In their prior 16 games, they were 5-10-1 with a 2.19 goals per game average and a 3.56 goals against average.
Their two wins have seen their scoring improve with eight goals and just two goals allowed. This could be the most underrated game of the slate as these two should battle each other for a very close, competitive game. These two have traded wins in five straight matchups with this time being the Blues turn to take home a win.
The Flyers have kept five of their last six games to under six goals and should push the Blues in a tough defensive matchup as Montgomery helped the Bruins maintain the fifth-best goals against average last season at 2.70 tied with the Canucks.
