Boise State sees slight move in AP Top 25 after tight Nevada win. Here are the rankings

Boise State football fell ever so slightly in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 college football rankings after a tense 28-21 victory over Nevada on Saturday night.

The Broncos (8-1, 5-0 Mountain West) were ranked No. 13 in Sunday’s poll after being No. 12 last week.

Boise State was also ranked No. 12 in the College Football Playoff rankings last week. The next iteration of those will be released Tuesday, and the Broncos likely will stay in the same spot, making the mock bracket in the expanded 12-team playoffs.

The CFP rankings are decided upon by a 13-person selection committee.

Boise State’s drop in the AP rankings, voted on by the media, was the result of the Broncos’ tight win over Nevada and some big games in the SEC and ACC. Former No. 2 Georgia and No. 4 Miami both lost their matchups — Georgia against then-No. 16 Ole Miss, which jumped the Rebels over Boise State this week to No. 10 — but there really wasn’t room to move up.

Boise State picked up 839 points in the poll, slotting in behind No. 12 Miami (907 points) and ahead of No. 14 SMU (788 points).

The Broncos remained the highest-ranked Group of Five team, but undefeated Army was not far behind. The No. 16 Black Knights (9-0) are the only other G5 team in the poll.

The highest-ranked team from a Group of Five conference in the CFP committee’s rankings — the Mountain West, AAC, Conference USA, MAC and Sun Belt — is guaranteed a spot in this year’s 12-team playoff field.

Washington State, whose only loss is to Boise State, was No. 19 this week. The Cougars are one of two leftover Pac-12 teams playing a Mountain West schedule until the new Pac-12 forms in July 2026.

The Broncos also were ranked No. 13 in the Coaches Poll, which was a bump up one spot. The Broncos were tied with SMU with 691 points. The two teams ranked behind No. 12 Miami (820 points) and ahead of No. 15 Texas A&M (597 points).

Like the AP Top 25, the only other G5 team ranked in the Coaches Poll is Army, at No. 17.
