Boise State rises in AP Top 25 again, earning best ranking since 2019. See full rankings

Boise State receiver Cam Camper celebrates with ball in hand during the Broncos’ 28-7 victory at Hawaii on Oct. 12, 2024.

Boise State is making itself comfortable in The Associated Press Top 25 college football rankings, finding itself ranked for the fourth straight week. The Broncos checked in at No. 15 in the latest poll, released on Sunday at noon.

The Broncos jumped two spots in the poll after a hard-fought 28-7 victory at Hawaii on Saturday night. It’s the highest Boise State has ranked in the AP Poll since it was No. 14 in week eight of the 2019 season. That would be the highest Boise State would make it that year, dropping eight spots a week later after a 28-25 loss to BYU.

Boise State accumulated 597 points in this week’s voting, just behind No. 14 Texas A&M (744 points) and ahead of No. 16 Indiana (580 points).

With the win over Hawaii, the Broncos improved to an overall record of 5-1 and 2-0 in Mountain West play, and remain one of the favorites to qualify for the expanded College Football Playoff this year. Boise State is the highest-ranked team among the Group of Five conferences — the Mountain West, American Athletic Conference, Conference USA, Mid-American Conference and the Sun Belt.

The highest-ranked champion in the CFP rankings among the Group of Five conference teams will guarantee a berth in the playoffs. Other ranked Group of 5 schools are No. 23 Army and No. 25 Navy of the AAC.

Notably, Oregon rose to No. 2 in the poll after a 32-31 victory over then-No. 2 Ohio State. Boise State’s only loss this season came to the Ducks on a last-second field goal, a 37-34 decision in week two. The better Oregon is, the better it looks for Boise State.

The Broncos also rose in the Coaches Poll, coming in at No. 19. It’s the second straight week Boise State has been ranked in the poll, which is voted on by a panel of FBS-level head coaches.

Similar to the AP Poll, Boise State is the highest-ranked G5 team in the Coaches Poll. The only other inclusion is the AAC’s Army, which is No. 24. Boise State picked up 373 points, coming in behind No. 18 Indiana (462 points) and ahead of No. 20 Pittsburgh (340 points).

Boise State will enjoy its second bye week of the season before a huge matchup at UNLV on Oct. 25 that may prove to be the Broncos’ toughest game left in the regular season.
