The body of a woman was found in a royal park near Kensington Palace; the London home of Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Officers were called to Kensington Gardens in west London just after 7am on 29 August where they found a woman unresponsive, the Metropolitan Police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, a spokesman added.

Thankfully, the Cambridges and their three children were away at Balmoral that day, holding a socially-distanced reunion with the Queen. However, it is not known whether any other royals were at the Palace, which is also home to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

The body was initially misidentified, but police are currently still working to find out the correct identity of the woman found. A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to Kensington Gardens W2 at 7.09am on Saturday, 29 August to a report of the concern for the safety of a woman.

"The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is being treated as unexplained at this time, but is not thought to be suspicious. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased."

The royal family has not commented on the investigation.
