Oscar Bobb was impressed with City's resolve, fortitude and determination after fighting from a goal down to defeat Manchester United on penalties in the Community Shield at Wembley.

Alejandro Garnacho stroked the Reds ahead after 82 minutes but Pep Guardiola's men fought back to level with one minute of normal time left to play.

Bobb, who was named Player of the Match after an energetic display, burst down the right flank and delivered an accurate cross into the box, which Bernardo Silva powerfully headed beyond Andre Onana to send the game to penalties.

We emerged 7-6 victors after the shootout and Bobb expressed his happiness at the team's attitude and character.

"The belief, all the way through we had it, we kept going. We didn’t get too downbeat and then it came," he said.

"It’s a great feeling, the first time we’ve won it in four years so honestly it’s amazing. To do it with a young group in the first real game of the season, it’s great.

"I thought it was going to be Erling! But Bernie was there, he’s a great headerer, so fortunately he got there.

"It’s another trophy. It’s a great start, keeps a lot of confidence and no negatives."

Goalkeeper Ederson scored one penalty and saved another in an entertaining shootout and Bobb reserved some praise for the Brazilian.

When quizzed if the shot-stopper is one of the best penalty takers in the squad, he said:

"I think so. I haven’t seen him miss, so probably yeah!"
