Blue Jays prospect Bo Bichette singles in first major league at-bat

Well, it certainly didn’t take long for Bo Bichette to feel comfortable at the major league level.

The 21-year-old prospect needed two pitches to pick up his first big league hit, knocking a 0-1 fastball on the inner half from Kansas City Royals starter Brad Keller between the third baseman and shortstop.

Bo’s dad, Dante Bichette, was in the stands to see it, closing the loop on an incredible set of circumstances to bring father and son together.

Dante, a former major leaguer himself, also made his debut on the road against the Kansas City Royals in the very same stadium, while wearing an 11 on his jersey, just like his son. In fact, Dante’s first major league at-bat in 1988 ended with a pinch-hit flyout to Royals infielder Bo Jackson, the very same man that he would later name his son after.

Dante would eventually pick up his own first big-league hit a few days later, hitting a single in his fourth major league at-bat — in Kansas City.

The Baseball Gods work in mysterious ways, and there’s a good chance this at-bat for Bo means even more to Dante than his own did.
