Today on hot picks, we looked at growth by acquisition stocks. I spoke with ernest wong, cfa and head of research at baskin wealth management on how to identify the good growth by acquisition stocks from the bat. >> We are long-term investors. What we're looking for are companies where we have the confidence they can intelligently deploy capital for the next 5.10, or 20 years. And so the types of serial acquirers, which companies that primarily rowth by acquisition. We want companies that first of all. They have a a very clear playbook for how they're generating valley from the acquisitions. These are not businesses that are simply a by buying companies for for multiple arbitrage, so to speak. They they have a clear playbook of what to do when they're going in and doing the deal and how to create value out of that. The second thing that we're looking for in serial acquirers is businesses that are very disciplined in the price that they're paying. So they have a very clear return target. They're very prudent with how they use equity and debt and their acquisitions bit that shows up and very high returns on invested capital over time. Let's some examples to discuss this. Your first pick is ccl industries. >> And this is a stock that's extraordinarily well over the last year, have that big to the what do you like there and and how, how much higher do you think your price targets? Pretty high? Yes. So $50. Yes. >> So ccl industries is the largest provider of labels in the world. I think the important thing to realize about labels is that they are a very small portion of the cost of the product, but they drive the bulk of the value for the product that they're selling. So if you think about a shampoo bottle for peace from png, for example, the label might cost a couple cents, but 100% of the value of the shampoo bottle. The price that png is able to charge comes from the label. And so what ccl has done over time is that they have become a trusted partner for many of the large multinational firms that are trying to grow in places like emerging markets and they benefit from a variety of secular trends. They are building a new plant to labels for for the gop drugs. For example, there are a major player in the electronics industry. So they're benefitting from things like artificial intelligence. And we think that over the next 5 the company is probably going to be able to double revenues from completing the acquisition program. They have tremendous track record of creating value from acquisitions most of them are are small talk local independence. But from time to time, they've also done large deals and a really good job with that as well. >> The second one is is couche-tard. And I think everybody knows they go out, they buy convenience stores at right price. The question I ask is, you know, how much longer can they keep this going right? And when they go years without doing a deal, some wonder, you know, what's going on and it weigh on the stock. >> Yes, couche-tard is is one that we followed for a very long they are a consolidator in the global convenience store industry. I think the

thing to understand about the convenience store industry is that it is consolidating to the larger players. The reason for this is gasoline demand has been on not declined, but it's been fairly mature over the that a while and probably will be going forward as as growth in electric and so a lot of the gas station and the convenience stores are usually attached in most places of the world. They were created. These are retail networks created by integrated oil companies. Their primary focus is running in oil running finding and exploring and finding oil. They don't necessarily have the retail expertise to manage a fuel, a communion starting at work properly. So what couche-tard is doing is that they would go out and make acquisitions of these of these they just did one total the french oil company. They bought 2000 stores in germany and belgium. They're going to go in the dillon proved that the food offer, the implement freezing they implement loyalty programs. And generate a substantial amount of synergies that your 3rd one, I only have 30 seconds left for it. But his first service in this one has wobbled a little bit. What's going to get back on track? So first for service has done a terrific job of creating value and making acquisitions. >> And in a variety and markets when and market that we're particularly excited about is their restoration business, where theyation services for the insurance industry. This this business benefits over time because of of increased global warming, more natural disasters. And so we think there's a lot of opportunity for acquisitions there as well. >> Alright, that does it for me on the close do tune in tomorrow. 3:30pm eastern time.
