Blue Jays set themselves back by waiting on Borucki

As the Blue Jays sit well out of contention coming out of the All-Star Break, there’s a strong case that they’ve made a lot of mistakes this year.

However, the one that grinds the gears of J.P. Arencibia is the decision to keep Ryan Borucki in the minors until late June.

“If you’re a team who wants to win, you bring up the guy who can help immediately,” he said on the latest episode of Digging In.“I don’t care about service time, I don’t care about any of that stuff.”

Borucki has been outstanding since joining the big club, posting a 3.52 ERA and even better 2.62 FIP across four starts.

The rookie hardly came out of nowhere. Prior to the season he was apparently in consideration to open 2018 with the major-league team.

“I know [the Blue Jays] even thought about keeping him on the team from spring training and keeping him in the bullpen to get his feet acclimated to the big leagues,” Arencibia said.

Starting the season with Borucki on the roster certainly would have helped the Blue Jays, but the 43-52 club has encountered issues this year even the stellar southpaw couldn’t solve.
