Blue Jays' rookie gets redemption after botched high five on 'Tonight Show'

If at first you don’t succeed, hope Jimmy Fallon notices, get invited back to the Tonight Show, and try it all over again.

That’s not a typical path to redemption for most of us, but that’s the path Toronto Blue Jays rookie Joe Biagini took after he was recently left hanging by the TV funny man and Tonight Show host.

Biagini, a reliever who’s also known for his humor in the clubhouse, was part of the Tonight Show audience last week when Fallon totally whiffed on a high-five, leaving him completely miffed. Biagini was seated in an aisle seat right next to the stage and right in Fallon’s path, yet all he could do was stare at an empty hand as Fallon continued up the aisle.

Making matters worse, the moment was captured on TV. And of course, observant baseball fans immediately suspected it was Biagini who got left behind.

To Biagini’s credit, he immediately turned it into a humorous moment by staring at his hand like it was invisible. And to Fallon’s credit, he made things right by inviting Biagini back to the show on Friday, inviting him on the stage and trying it all over again.

All’s well that ends with a successful high-five.

Everyone involved was good sport, and now Biagini is hero to his teammates.

He also has a built-in joke that the Blue Jays marketing team could turn into a hilarious commercial next season if he ends up in the team’s plan.
