Blue Jays prospect Vlad Jr. earns impressive honour

The top prospect in baseball is living up to the hype.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been named The 2018 Minor League Player of the Year by Baseball America, a publication that covers all things surrounding the sport.

The 19-year-old rose through the ranks within the Toronto Blue Jays farm system this season and seemed to smash expectations at every level. He wrapped up the year with the AAA Buffalo Bisons where he put down a solid .336 batting average with six home runs in 30 games.

Let me remind you, this kid isn’t allowed to legally drink in the country that he’s playing. Yet, he’s dominating AAA ball.

What’s impressed me most about him is how he’s lived up to and even embraced the hype surrounding him. He’s the son of a Hall of Famer and signed for big money with Jays as a 16-year-old. The eyes of the baseball world have been on him for the majority of his life and yet, he hasn’t flinched or faltered.

With no MLB call-up coming this season, his next move is to begin playing in the Arizona Fall League once October rolls around. Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio, two other up-and-coming prospects in the Jays’ system, will join him.

My mother constantly told me while I was growing up that I shouldn’t wish my life away. This is the exception though.

I can’t wait to see Vlady breathe some life into the Rogers Centre next season.
