Following a two-game split in San Francisco, the Blue Jays have made an adjustment to their roster, optioning struggling outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to Triple-A Buffalo.

Richard Urena has reportedly been called up ahead of Toronto’s four-game home stand against the Chicago White Sox that begins Thursday.

Before his demotion, Hernandez was struggling mightily at the plate, slashing .189/.262/.299 with three home runs in 39 games. His assignment to Buffalo comes after he struck out four times in Wednesday’s 4-3 loss to the Giants.

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo was quick to point out Hernandez’s declining confidence following the Giants series.

“For sure his confidence is down,” Montoyo shared with Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith. “Everybody can tell by looking at him.”

Urena’s promotion seems to fit well with a Blue Jays team that is hurting for offence. The young short stop was batting .313/.333/.406 in 11 games for the Blue Jays before he was went down a few weeks ago to make room on the roster for Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
