Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman was vomiting during win over Padres

Throwing up, puking, hurling, barfing, upchucking, tossing your cookies, eating backwards... Whatever you want to call it, it’s rarely a fun experience.

And while I’ve (shockingly) never pitched in MLB, I can imagine that doing so with an uneasy stomach isn’t an ideal situation to be in.

Unfortunately for Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman, that was the precisely where he found himself on Sunday. According to multiple sources, the 28-year-old righty was slipping his guts before and during his start against the San Diego Padres at the Rogers Centre.

Despite his health being a hurdle, Stroman battled through it for his side.

He only surrendered one run on five hits over five innings of action in Toronto’s 10-1 victory over the Padres, the same Padres that slaughtered the Blue Jays 19-4 the day before.

“He was sick the whole time so that was a gutsy performance,” Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said after the game. “... He was throwing up. He (was) sick from the beginning and he wasn't throwing as hard because he didn't feel right, but he hung in there because we needed him.”

Since Stroman was at Scotiabank Arena the night before for the Toronto Raptors’ series-clinching win over the Milwaukee Bucks to advance to the NBA Finals, there was some murmuring that his illness may be connected to the late night celebrations all over the city that followed the victory. (Which wouldn’t be that crazy because, let’s be honest, we’ve all had a bit too much fun and had to drag ourselves to work the following day.)

Mr. ‘Height Doesn’t Measure Heart’ quickly snuffed out that fire, though.

"I didn't feel too good, a little nauseous, a little dizzy,” he said. “A couple of guys in the clubhouse have been under the weather a bit. At the end of the day I just pitch off adrenaline."

That’s quite the coincidence, but alright Marcus. You did what you had to do out there to earn the win and boost your record to 3-6 this season.
