Blisters have become enemy number one for the Toronto Blue Jays’ pitching staff, and a finger sore has now sent Marcus Stroman to the 10-day disabled list, according to Gregor Chisolm of MLB.com.

The Blue Jays’ right-hander first had the injury pop up during his start on Aug. 7 against the Boston Red Sox. Stroman hurled seven innings of one-run baseball before he was pulled from the game due to the ailment.

In his past two starts, Stroman, 27, failed to operate past the fifth inning. In his most recent start on Friday night against the New York Yankees, he was tagged for six hits and five earned runs over just four innings of work.

This marks the second time in the past two seasons the Jays’ starter has struggled with a blister.

Stroman is not the only Toronto pitcher to succumb to a blister. In 2017, Aaron Sanchez was sent to the DL four times due to the affliction, and most recently, Marco Estrada left a rehab start early on July 24 with a blister.

It makes a lot of sense for the five-year pro to skip a start to let the injury heal. Sanchez’s nagging battle with the finger sore last season shows just how costly a blister can be.

With Stroman out, left-handed pitcher Thomas Pannone will start on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles. Pannone, 24, is the 27th ranked prospect in the Blue Jays’ organization according to MLB Pipeline.
