Blue Jays' Danny Jansen goes yard in second career MLB game

Toronto Blue Jays rookie catcher Danny Jansen couldn’t have dreamed up a better start to his Major League career.

After knocking in two singles and going 2-for-3 while gunning out a base-stealer in his big-league debut, Jansen recorded his first-career home run in just his second appearance on Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals.

The 23-year-old fell behind 1-2 in his second at-bat of the night, but took Heath Fillmyer deep — very deep — on the ensuing pitch to secure his first big-league blast while giving Toronto a (brief) 4-3 lead in the process.

He followed up his monumental moment by giving his parents, brother, and other family and friends a salute as he crossed home plate:

The Blue Jays No. 3 prospect, who is slated to be the team’s ‘catcher of the future,’ if all goes according to plan, hit .275 with 12 jacks, 58 RBI, and an .863 OPS with Triple-A Buffalo this season before getting the call.
