Blue Jays analyst Gregg Zaun fired after complaints of inappropriate behavior

Former major-league catcher and current Toronto Blue Jays analyst Gregg Zaun has been fired from Sportsnet for inappropriate conduct in the workplace. Multiple women came forward with complaints about Zaun’s language and conduct. After investigating those claims, Sportsnet fired him.

Sportsnet is owned by Rogers Communications, which also owns the Blue Jays.

Zaun, 46, retired from baseball prior to the 2011 season and immediately joined Sportsnet as one of their MLB studio analysts. He had been a pre-game show host for the Blue Jays the past couple seasons.

Zaun played for nine different teams during his 16-year career in the majors, spending the most time in Toronto. He got his first taste of broadcasting in 2006, serving as a postseason analyst at Sportsnet.

His firing comes a day after former Seattle Mariners second baseman Bret Boone made “offensive” and “inappropriate” comments about sexual harassment and assault. Boone later apologized for his remarks.

Zaun becomes one of the many men in recent weeks to be accused of inappropriate conduct in the workplace. Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was the first of that group. He took a leave of absence in October after multiple women came forward with stories of sexual assault.

His resignation spurred a number of women to speak out about sexual assault and harassment. Kevin Spacey, Russell Simmons and Matt Lauer are among those who have resigned from their positions or been fired in recent weeks due to similar allegations. Zaun becomes the first prominent name in baseball to join that group.
