The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired right-handed reliever Jordan Hicks from the St. Louis Cardinals, the club announced Sunday after a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

Toronto is sending pitching prospects Sem Robberse and Adam Kloffenstein to St. Louis in the deal. Both have spent this season in Double-A New Hampshire, while Robberse was the No. 7 prospect in the Jays' system, according to MLB Pipeline.

Hicks has bounced back from a slow start to the 2023 campaign. Despite a 1-6 record, the 26-year-old owns a 3.67 ERA and a 31.2% strikeout rate in 40 appearances this year. He eligible to become a free agent in the offseason.

Hicks was the Cardinals' third-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft, and made his major league debut in 2018.

The move for the hard-throwing reliever comes one day after the Jays placed star closer Jordan Romano on the 15-day IL with a back issue. Reliever Mitch White was designated for assignment to make room for Hicks on the 40-man roster.

Hicks is the second Cards' reliever to make his way north of the border in the past few days, as lefty Genesis Cabrera also landed in Toronto after he was designated for assignment last week.
