Blue Jackets Should Target Disgruntled Rangers Forward

The Columbus Blue Jackets should consider targeting Kaapo Kakko from the New York Rangers following the recent drama surrounding the young forward.

Kakko, a former second-overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, has shown flashes of his potential but appears to be struggling to find consistency and confidence with the Rangers.

The recent drama, which included him publicly expressing frustration over being a healthy scratch on Saturday against the St. Louis Blues.

This could make Kakko a prime candidate for a change of scenery and the Blue Jackets should throw their name into the hat for his services.

For Columbus, Kakko would add another skilled, young winger to add to their roster. At just 22 years old, he still has plenty of time to develop into the top-six forward many envisioned when he was drafted.

Kakko’s combination of size, skill could complement the Blue Jackets’ core of emerging talent, including players like Adam Fantilli, Kent Johnson and Cole Sillinger.

Additionally, the Blue Jackets are in need of more offensive depth and scoring, particularly on the wings. Kakko could thrive in a less pressure-packed environment, where he’s given a defined role and room to grow.

A trade for Kakko could be a calculated gamble with a potentially high reward for Columbus. Which is why it makes the most sense for a team in the Blue Jackets position to take the gamble.
